Woods
All of the wood that is used for our plaques is 100% all natural North American hardwoods, produced exclusively to our specifications. Walnut is the industry standard for wall plaques but our wood selection covers the entire spectrum of natural wood types.

Walnut
The Walnut species and its allies, are important for their attractive timber, which (except in young trees) is hard, dense, tight-grained and polishes to a very smooth finish. The color ranges from creamy white in the sapwood to a dark chocolate color in the heartwood. When kiln-dried, walnut wood tends to be toward a dull brown color, but when air-dried can become a rich purplish-brown. Because of its color, hardness, and grain it is prized award and plaque wood.
Solid Walnut boards are commonly used as the standard in the awards and recognition industry.

Cherry
Like all fruit trees, cherry belongs to the rose family and was used as early as 400 B.C. by the Greeks and Romans for furniture making. The wood from the cherry tree can be described in a single word: beautiful. It's rich red-brown color deepens with age. Cherry is unsurpassed in its finishing qualities-its uniform texture takes a finish very well. The finish is satiny to the touch.

Oak
The most abundant United States hardwood species. The wood is most often straight grained and open pored. The wood is attractive looking because the grain is distinguished by rays which reflect light. White Oak color ranges from nearly white sapwood to darker gray brown heartwood, while Red Oak ranges from nearly white cream color to beautiful warm, pale brown heartwood, tinted with red. Oak is heavy, strong, hard, and durable under exposure and can be stained beautifully with a wide range of finishes.
